Magic on Chambers Street
Evenings, explorations, and everything that makes the week feel a little magical.
When Friendsgiving doesn’t go as planned, or you suddenly find yourself without a plan but craving something special, take my advice: head to Chambers Street and follow this plan.
The excitement started earlier in the day, that shared giddiness when you know you’re stepping into a culinary adventure. The moment we walked into the restaurant, sleek, modern, but inviting and immediately felt it was going to be special. Two bar seats were waiting for us.
Vik and Phillip welcomed us instantly, the kind of hospitality that feels effortless. I asked if they could craft a fall-inspired mocktail, and Phillip just smiled, like he already knew what I wanted. What he brought out tasted exactly like the mood of the night: cozy, thoughtful, a little magical. Vik walked us through the menu and the farms behind each dish, seasonal, intentional, mostly sourced from three local producers at the Union Square Greenmarket.
Then the dishes arrived: hamachi with apple and yuzu; campo rosso escarole salad; scallops with cauliflower and pine nuts. The scallops were borderline too beautiful to eat. The agnolotti with honeynut squash and sage made us laugh, remembering what our original Friendsgiving plans were supposed to be. And the chicken with spinach? Incredible. They even sent out butterball potatoes, knowing exactly what the moment needed.
When it came time for after-dinner drinks and dessert, I was immediately drawn to the tea menu, spotting my favorite tea shop, Tea Dealers. As I pondered which to choose, Vik, again speaking from my soul, revealed a hidden stash of Lemon Verbena. This is truly my favorite way to end a meal and, in my opinion, the epitome of hospitality. Holding the special cup in my hands, feeling so grateful. Every detail was so thoughtfully attended to; we even joked that Phillip must be a magician, because every time my friend drank water, the ice and water magically refilled.
We trusted their guidance on dessert: the mascarpone, a favorite since their opening, and the caramel apple, crafted by the new pastry chef who previously worked at Daniel. Again, in awe of the artistry and balance of flavors blending together for the perfect bite. It’s rare to have a meal where every element aligns so perfectly, but the magic at Chambers is undeniable.
After lingering for hours, never rushed, we stopped by the kitchen to thank the team. We noticed four bar seats facing the kitchen (bookmarking that for next time). Even the master sommelier adds to the sense that you’re in expert hands, even if I didn’t get to explore that side this time.
We drifted out, not quite ready for the night to end, and walked to Primos, a beautiful art deco lounge at The Frederick, for one last tea before heading home. I grabbed a pen on the way out (for a future Behind the Matches project) and let myself soak in how unexpectedly perfect the evening had been.

EXPLORE
A chill round-up of places worth a slow moment.
Tea Dealers | 90 Hudson Street
My forever favorite tea shop. They work directly with small farmers across Asia, offering pure, intentional teas you truly can’t find elsewhere. Lately I’ve been sipping their Wild Persimmon, earthy and calming and the Soba Cha, which is hands down the best I’ve ever had.
Kaffe | 401 Greenwich Street
Kaffe is a relaxed, scandinavian inspired cafe offering relaxed and friendly space. Fresh baked goods, veggie-forward bites, grounding atmosphere. My go-to: the Buddha Salad.
Joanne Hendricks Cookbooks | 488 Greenwich Street
I stumbled upon this cozy bookshop accidentally after being stopped in my tracks by the adorable window setup. If you’re walking too fast, you’d miss it. Joanne has had this shop in her home for years — the place for rare and out-of-print titles, especially antiquarian cookbooks.
EXPEDITION
A little upstate air.
Livingston Manor is a charming Sullivan County town that offers an effortlessly slow, beautiful weekend. Stay in an airbnb and highly recommend an afternoon fire.
Breakfast: The Walk In, cozy, simple, perfect (order their buscuits and the seasonal white bean soup was to die for).
Dinner: Katerskeller — wood-fired pizza, warm, always hits or The Debruce for a full dinner experience; or I hear their brunch is to die for.
Cooking at home:
• Grab pantry basics + local goods at Main Street Farm (Shop vegetables there from, Somewhere In Time Farm, Justin who runs the farm is incredible and so are the vegetables, trust me!)
• Wine from Upstream — thoughtful bottles, natural gems
Hike: Walnut Mountain is an old carraige trail, offering a fun overlook and other trails you can wander around through.
Cozy Hangs: Upward Brewing is a cozy brewery with beautiful grounds and even a small hike (about half-hour). I also love the The Arnold House — I love this hotel to hang out at, there is a fire place and you a greenhouse filled with exotic plans (truly amazing)!
LISTEN & FEEL
A few songs holding space for me this week.
“I’d Miss The Birds” — Joy Oladokun
Joy has always been a voice that feels like truth for me, carrying me through life’s highs and lows and this version featuring Sheryl Crow takes it to a new level.
“Voyage” — Rivière Monk
This song always helps me slow down, loosen up and feel open. There’s something about the pacing, the music, and the way the story unfolds that lets me breathe a little deeper, drop the tension, and just be present.
“Nice To Each Other” — Olivia Dean
I think I am late to the Olivia Dean party but need I say more? For some reason, she gives me Maggie Rogers vibes, the same raw, airy energy and that effortless mix of joy and realness that hits right in the chest.
LOVIN
Little sparks I’m loving this week — things that made me pause, sip, or write.
Pause | Quote, From Breaths
I pass this quote on my walk everyday, it reminds me to slow down and tune in to truth. It reads, Listen more often to things than to beings. Hear the fire’s voice, hear the voice of water, hear, in the wind, the sobbing of the trees, it is the breathe of the ancestors. - Birago Diop
Sip | Honey Bunches Apple Hibiscus Drink
A lightly sweet, apple–hibiscus blend that tastes like fall in a cup. Bright, cozy, and zero-proof, my current favorite. Can be found at Feste at 39 1/2 Crosby Street (the cutest gift and home goods store).
Write | Passion Journal
Moleskine’s Passion Journals for tracking what you love, travel, recipes, films, obsessions. I adore these!
CREATIONS
A space for what I’ve created.
I made this recent piece of art for my very dear friend. It felt really special to make this for her and love how it holds so much of her journey! Also a reminder to collect your tiny treasures to see what they could create.
Hey you! If you made it this far, thanks for reading. If you’ve discovered a spot, made something you’re proud of, or have a song you can’t stop playing or anything you feel called to share, drop it in the comments — let’s share the inspiration!
Much love, E

So good! I can feel your energy in this, thanks for sharing it!
